humble: a retrospective pt. 1

eh. so much for one a week.

for the "long time" fans of my comic, this one should be more than a little familiar. for some reason, it's my favorite strip i've ever done. but for the newcomers... it's new to you! pardon the lack of color, but i wanted to maintain the integrity of the strip. it's a classic.

i just got home from seeing speed racer, and allow me to rant a little bit... but not about speed racer. this is a rant about how iron man is getting a 93% on rotten tomatoes and speed racer is only getting a lousy %35.

iron man had an incredibly poorly written script that never gives you a chance to attach to any of the characters, and in my opinion, some of the most boring action sequences i've seen in a superhero movie. while the actual creation of the suit was shiny enough to entertain, i found myself texting throughout the whole movie.

speed racer, on the other hand, is exactly what it was supposed to be. a fast paced, corny sugar shock. the color pallet is reminiscent of a bag of skittles, the action scenes are outrageous enough that it hardly matters that it's beyond science and physics, and the scenes where you're supposed to attach to the characters are so deliciously corny that it simply works.

it is a movie about cars with weapons that jump. if you go into this movie expecting a moving masterpiece, you're watching it for the wrong reasons. the reason i hold such a grudge against iron man is that we exist in a world where batman begins exists, a film that i think we can all agree raised the bar for hero movies all around. i went into the movie not expecting it to be batman begins, but at least entertaining. instead, it only served to frustrate me. the first hulk movie was more fun to watch, and that's saying a lot.

blah blah blah.

oh, yeah, for those not in the know? i'm a nerd.

if i don't have a new comic by next week, i'll post another classic. tanks fuh readin'.
